Definition |
A person with European, Middle Eastern, or North African ancestral origin who identifies, or is identified, as White. The term also refers to individuals who classify themselves as described below. The term has served to distinguish the ethnic group from other groups with skin of other colours, and hence originally derives from the concept of race, but is used as indicator of ethnicity. Sometimes the term European is used, or, in terms of racial classifications, the term Caucasian or Caucasoid, coined by Blumenbach in 18th century for Indo-Europeans. |
